Some folks were Up in the Air and others just Up as the Academy Award nominations were announced this morning. Producers must have been “blind-sided” by their nomination for The Blind Side, but the Best Picture category was doubled this year leaving room for surprise nominees like the animated Up alongside sure bets such as Avatar. Another surprise was the darkly political District 9, taking the place of other predictions such as (500) Days of Summer and even Star Trek.  An Education, The Hurt Locker, Inglorious Bastards as well as A Serious Man and Precious rounded out the Best Picture nominees.
