The battle for the west is heating up as the Phoenix Suns told the Los Angeles Lakers that they would not slowly into the night with last night’s 119-108.

The championship Lakers did away with Oklahoma pretty handily in Game 1 beating their opponents by nine.

There were both cheers and tears across LA yesterday as the Lakers dominated the Oklahoma City Thunder 101-85 but the LA Galaxy lost the Major League Soccer championship to Real Salt Lake in a nail-bitingly close match.

Los Angeles may have missed out on the elusive freeway series (thanks, Derek Jeter…) but Angelenos will be happy with another local sports battle as the NBA season officially starts tonight with the Lakers and the Clippers facing off at 7:30 at the Staples Center.
